French Open results 2017: Men's quarterfinals postponed, Caroline Wozniacki upset

Wozniacki has had a tougher run through the French Open, and doesn't appear to be quite at full fitness.

"I had so many great moments on the court, big wins and played a great game", she said. She left the arena in a similar state.

She finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth game, though, as her aggressive game clicked and she began to boss the rallies with a whippy forehand that Wozniacki could not read.

"Her shots are hard to read", Wozniacki said, "so you don't really feel comfortable at any point in the match".

Ostapenko became the first teenager to reach the semi-finals of a Grand Slam since American Madison Keys at the US Open in 2015.

Jelena Ostapenko pulls off an exceptional upset at Roland Garros.

While not looking especially anxious, she had looked emotional throughout. Mladenovic served 16 double faults but came out on top. The expected sonic wave of support had not yet materialised, although at each change of ends more and more spectators flooded in, sated by their sacred French lunches.

The conditions were far from ideal. She served out the set, fending off a break chance, with an ace, 6-4: It had taken a riveting 65 minutes.

An empowered Bacsinszky broke again at love-her third straight game-to go back up a break, 4-3.

Bacsinszky simply got on with business, cracking groundstrokes from side to side.

Zhang suffered an early break in the first game with a poor backhand attack, before both players traded advantage to force a tiebreak, where Kuznetsova took the initiative at 5-1 before the Chinese won three points in a row.

It was a rough day, both for players and spectators, as gale-force winds and torrential rain forced repeated interruptions to play.

Timea Bacsinszky beat Mladenovic in a stunning show of domination, winning 6-4, 6-4.

Then again, this was a matchup that clearly suits Ostapenko: She is now 4-0 against Wozniacki.

Bacsinszky came out firing after another brief rain delay as the Chatrier crowd did its best to keep Mladenovic alive.

They returned around half an hour later.

One of them, though, will enjoy a particularly wonderful birthday gift: a place in their first Major final.

Wozniacki is that rare beast: a twice year-end world number one-ranked tennis player who has never won a Grand Slam.

Ostapenko clubbed 38 winners to Wozniacki's six to reach her maiden grand slam semi-final, while Bacsinszky was far too accomplished for haughty Mladenovic on a dismal weather day. The opponent she faces in the semi-final, on the other hand, ousted local favourite Kristina Mladenovic.

World number one Andy Murray is also set to be in action later on Wednesday against number eight seed Kei Nishikori of Japan, while third seed Stan Wawrinka takes on Croatia's Marin Cilic.
