Microsoft Details Specs for Xbox One X, Formerly Called Project Scorpio

Microsoft announced a new, high-end Xbox console this weekend to kick off the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, along with a slate of new and upcoming games for the coming year.

This is especially confusing because Microsoft claims all games, even those that haven't been enhanced, will still perform better on the Xbox One X compared to other Xbox One models.

Sony PlayStation 4 has dominated the latest generation of consoles, outselling Xbox One by 2-to-1, according to industry trackers. Microsoft clarified their discount to The Verge, stating that the Xbox One S discount only applies to specific bundles and promos. The Xbox One X has specs and features that no other home console can match, from true 4K graphics to the most advanced processor to ever appear inside of a console. The PS4 PRo produces 4.2 Teraflops running at 911MHz.

At the very end of the press conference, Microsoft dropped more bombshells about this powerful console.

"We expect [Xbox One X] to underwhelm at retail, as has PS4 Pro, which costs $399", says Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities. Both the consoles offer 1TB of internal storage. It will come with one terabyte of and an ultra-HD Blu-ray drive for 4K movies and shows.

But the One X, for all its technological prowess, by no means is a slam dunk for people looking to invest in a new console.

According to the USA technology firm the Xbox One X is officially the world's most powerful console with 40% more grunt than anything now on the market.

Crucially, Microsoft has chose to make the Xbox One X compatible with all existing games, meaning gamers will not be forced into buying expensive titles exclusive only to the new console. At launch, a handful of titles will be available that support the higher resolution, including Forza Motorsport 7, also announced at E3.

Game play on 4K screens, whether on televisions or personal computer monitors, is expected to be among themes at E3 this week. Gamers couldn't use old games on it or trade their old games in for new ones.

Sony has sold more than 60.4 million PS4 consoles since they hit the market in November of 2013, the company revealed on Monday. Microsoft didn't utter a single word about VR in the event. A pricey machine like the Xbox One X, however, seems to be edging consoles toward the premium world of PC gaming. Not only that, Microsoft believe that games already released for the Xbox One will also feature improved graphics, and will also be backwards-compatible with the 360 and the original Xbox.
