Clinical India run over hapless Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy

India crushed Pakistan by beating them in the ICC Champions Trophy by 124 runs under the leadership of the captain of the Indian Cricket team, Virat Kohli at Edgbaston.

Kohli also praised veteran batsman Yuvraj Singh, who made 53 runs off 30 balls and termed his innings as the "difference" between the two sides. "You don't enjoy because you know when you wake up in the morning there's only one team which is going to win, which is India", Ganguly said. This target was revised to 324 of 48 overs for Pakistan.

Opening the batting together after nearly a year and a half, Rohit and Dhawan got off to a slow but steady start.

I got to 50, I wasn't able to freely play. A century opening stand, every member of the top four getting a half-century, an explosive finish, and no real weak links with the ball - none that this Pakistan side could exploit, at any rate. In the test of nerves, Pakistan were counting on experienced Shoaib Malik.

Self-belief has played a large role in Pandya's rise, to the point where he is establishing himself as an indispensable cog in India's white-ball set-up.

"A scan has confirmed that Wahab Riaz suffered a deltoid ligament complex after an eversion injury mechanism whilst bowling during the India vs Pakistan match on June 4", said the PCB press release. Pandya put those reservations to rest, smoking three sixes in the last over to help India finish with 319/3. The defending champions forged the crucial partnerships, played the ball to its merit and post-rain, when it was more hard to bat with the same concentration, the batsman applied themselves to the English conditions and displayed temperament. It was batsmen's show all the way, the first four batsmen went up with their massive fifties and the last one was Hardik Pandya who swiftly delivered three astounding sixes racing up India's total to 319 and his, a quick twenty.

On the other hand, the deflating loss for Pakistan has hurt their fans and these emotions and frustrations were echoed by former Pakistan skipper, Imran Khan on twitter. If you play dot balls then the game doesn't go anywhere, you try a few shots and you lose wickets. Wahab Riaz was once the spearhead of this bowling attack but his performance was a major let down on such an important occasion. That chance was enough for him to grow into confidence, as he took on Pakistani bowlers in the depth overs. The openers Azhar Ali and Ahmed Shehzad built a 47-run partnership for the first wicket, but after Shehzad was dismissed for 12 (from 22 deliveries), Pakistan were never really in the game as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
