House intel panel demands 'Comey tapes' as Trump razzes on their existence

During nearly three hours of statements Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey described himself as "stunned" by Trump's "very disturbing" and "very concerning" behavior in several of their meetings.

Trump reached out again as president, but Bharara says he refused to return the call, because he considered these contacts inappropriate. The president claimed repeatedly during his campaign that he would be filing lawsuits against political opponents, parties and news organizations he disliked. "Yesterday showed no collusion, no obstruction, " Trump said.

"I have committed, but I am committing the USA to Article 5", said Trump. "I took it as, this is what he wants me to do".

MONTANARO: Lines out the door to some of those bars, too.

MONTANARO: Yes, I think it did. Why believe the president when you know him to be a liar?

Then there was the Washington Post editorial page saying Comey had "painted a picture of a President who grossly abused his executive authority".

The Department of Justice, however, issued a statement standing by the original explanation. We don't have to be "woke" to know that this branch of the "Feds" has been anti-Black for nearly its entire institutional history.

MONTANARO: It could be something that Bob Mueller, the special counsel in charge of the Russian investigation is looking at.

More ominously yet, Comey also stressed that the Russian effort is clearly directed from the Kremlin and is a long-term strategy aimed at undermining future elections and the integrity and credibility of American democracy.

"We also were aware of facts that I can't discuss in an open setting that would make (Sessions') continued engagement in a Russia-related investigation problematic, " Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday. What does the case come down to anyway? Comey's testimony portrays a president who governs like Tony Soprano - with implied threats and bravado. Comey testified that Trump told him, in a private Oval Office conversation on February 14, "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go".

"Comey admitted that he gave in to Loretta Lynch's request to miscast the real Clinton "investigation" as a "matter" starting by July 2016 - so, I am guessing, he likely became willing to countenance and even play a role in plans that retarded the ability of the Trump transition and the Trump administration to advance its agenda after the election result", the Wall Street analyst assumed.

But eventually they conceded, agreeing to a document production schedule with the Senate and providing documents to the House Intelligence Committee this week as well.

After the election but before the inauguration, Trump asked Bharara to stay on as US attorney in Manhattan when they met at Trump Tower. Does that constitute intent? We are doing really well.

Thirdly, and lastly, is it reasonable to assume that Trump was hoping to quash the FBI's investigation with Comey's firing?

The way Comey described it, when the president gets you alone in the Oval Office, looks you in the eye and expresses his wishes, you understand you're being given an order. "He doesn't know the difference between truth and lies", Cruz told reporters. I mean, there was legislation moving in Congress on financial regulations and on health care. "If I write it in such a way that I don't include anything that would trigger classification, that would make it easier for us to discuss within the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the government and to hold on to it in a way that makes it accessible to us".
