COSBY TRIAL: Accuser's mother bolsters story Cosby drugged, assaulted her

The prosecution's opening witness was not the person Cosby is charged with abusing, but another woman, who broke down in tears as she testified that the comedian violated her in the mid-1990s at a hotel bungalow in Los Angeles. A comedian who made us smile at times when it was time to smile?

And he told jurors that Cosby apologized to Constand's mother in a phone call the year after the encounter not because he had assaulted her, but to say, "I'm sorry, I'm a married man, and I never should have done it". After briefly losing consciousness, she came round as Cosby was touching her private parts, she testified.

She said she could only retreat into her own mind.

"He said, 'Just taste it, it's an old bottle, '" Constand remembered. One time, he placed a hand on her thigh. At another dinner, he sat close to her and put his hand on the button and zipper of her trousers; she said she told him, "I don't want that". Pulliam Knight, who has a foundation supporting the wellness of young girls, stated she wasn't a supporter of the alleged crimes, but beleives that the trial should be viewed from an objective point of view. She said her daughter later told her she woke up next to Cosby in bed with her clothes undone - an account that tallied with what Johnson testified about on Monday.

Cross-examination of Mason was brief.

Constand first told her story to Detective David Mason, of the Durham Regional Police near Toronto, when he interviewed her in her Canada home in January 2005. But there she was, making an appearance unexpected by all, perhaps especially by Montgomery County Court Judge Steven T. O'Neill, who would chastise prosecution lawyers at day's end for not giving him forewarning. She told reporters she was there to support her TV dad.

Cosby's lawyers tried repeatedly to get the case thrown out. That is correct, Mason said.

She quoted him as saying - "They'll take the edge off".

Constand said Cosby gave her pills he claimed were a natural remedy to ease her stress about a looming career change.

In the deposition for the civil lawsuit he settled with Constand, Cosby admitted to procuring now-banned sedatives known as quaaludes in the 1970s to administer to women he was pursuing for sex. "I said, 'I'm seeing two of you, I'm slurring my words'". "I took the pills and swallowed them down". Cosby, one of Temple's most popular alums, has previously referenced the fact that Constand is a lesbian with regard to why he'd never do what she's accused him of. But the defense emphasized inconsistencies between Constand's testimony and in accounts she gave to police a decade ago, including how she first met the actor. He said she testified in 1996 about going to Cosby's home after the alleged assault.

Cosby and his family, ahead of the trial, have suggested the charges are fueled by racism.

Prosecutors brought in Miller and Johnson's mother to help bolster her testimony.

Lawyer Joseph Miller testified at Cosby's trial on in suburban Philadelphia Tuesday that his notes show Kelly Johnson told him the encounter happened in May 1990. "Things of that nature", she said.

Constand appeared upbeat and relaxed as she entered the courtroom, and increasingly serious and impassioned as her testimony wore on. It's nearly as if she folded in on herself.

It wasn't immediately clear how soon she would take the stand. "Just getting started", Cosby's attorney, Angela Agrusa, vowed outside the courthouse.

"What you know is what your daughter has told you, correct?"

The prosecutor asked if she could recall any other time she saw Cosby face to face.

To both questions, Sewell answered yes. RadarOnline.com can exclusively reveal that the former Temple University employee became temporarily paralyzed during the alleged attack.

He has also been publicly accused by more the 50 other women in recent years of drugging and sexual assault, and prosecutors are expected to try to show a modus operandi by the comedian by calling a second alleged victim to the stand. But only Constand's claims have resulted in criminal charges.

The defense received a boost when the Canadian detective who initially investigated Constand's claim in January 2005 took the stand following Miller.
