Cavaliers to roll with black sleeved jerseys for Game 2 of finals

The Cleveland Cavaliers are down 0-2 in their NBA Finals series against the Golden State Warriors after a 19-point Game 2 loss on Sunday.

Steph Curry, who has two NBA MVP awards to his name, added insult to injury, punishing the Cavs with 28 points and 10 assists. All four Warriors All-Stars were clicking simultaneously and the results were devastating, with Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue pulling the plug while facing a 21-point deficit with almost four minutes remaining. Curry recorded his first career postseason triple-double with 32 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, while Durant contributed 33 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and five blocks and is suddenly on the cusp of his first ring.

In basketball parlance, that would be 29 points, 14 assists, 11 rebounds, three steals, one blocked shot and four turnovers. And Golden State guard Klay Thompson, lately in an uncharacteristic shooting slump, finished with 22 points and seven rebounds. The highlight of the night was this dazzling dribbling display he used to get the best of LeBron in a third quarter one-on-one matchup.

Golden State's final tally of 132 points was the most scored in a Finals game since the 1987 Lakers poured in 141 points in a Game 2 win over the Celtics.

It does boost the Cavaliers' faith in being able to fight back knowing James has such a history in road playoff contests, according to Cleveland forward Kevin Love. No one else has more than two. "We got to stop the ball first and then fan out to the 3-point line if those guys go there".

That basket pushed the Warriors lead to 10 as Curry let out a scream and the crowd went into a frenzy. Once during the first quarter, Durant toppled James as he blew by him, then drove in for a dunk.

STANDOUT PERFORMER: Though Durant anchored the offense and had a mammoth game overall, Thompson's reemergence as a scorer also proved a difference-maker for Warriors.

Durant scored the most points in the game, topping a triple-double performance from LeBron James of the Cavaliers.

But despite the Game 1 setback, it is a best-of-seven series, and the Cavaliers are focused on turning the tide and taking a 1-1 tie back to Cleveland for Game 3 next Wednesday night.

"Effort, effort, yep", Kyrie Irving said matter-of-factly. "I think that (it's) just thinking about the next game, things that we can correct going forward". That can not happen again if the Cavaliers are going to repeat as National Basketball Association champions. "More importantly, it felt good to get the win".

"It was just great to be on the sidelines again", said Kerr, who plans to coach the remainder of the series after struggling with a serious back condition.

"When Kevin Durant has the ball, you don't want to leave him and get to shooters", Lue said.

"The most important thing is the way he's defending", teammate Draymond Green said.

They needed to stay attentive through much of the regular season and managed to do it, punting away the top seed because they knew they didn't need it en route to a 51-win year.

It is a odd reality, but the kid from Akron has never won the first game in a Finals series in which he has taken home the championship trophy as well as the Finals MVP.
