US Jewish groups condemn Trump's withdrawal from Paris Agreement

Barack Obama slammed his successor President Donald Trump on Thursday for pulling out of the Paris climate deal, warning that the move would see the United States "reject the future".

Spurred by Trump's actions, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced he was teaming up with California Governor Jerry Brown and Washington Governor Jay Inslee to create the United States Climate Alliance.

But he also raised the possibility of negotiating to re-enter the Paris accord or an entirely new deal on terms that were "fair" to the US.

Italy, France and Germany released a joint statement admonishing the U.S.'s exit from the climate agreement. Suggesting renegotiating re-entry was not a major priority, he said, "If we can, great".

"This agreement gives foreign bureaucrats control over how much energy we use right here in America", Trump said during a speech last May.

During the campaign, Trump said the accord would cost the USA economy trillions of dollars with no tangible benefit.

"Climate change is already impacting the military itself, how it operates, and the countries in which we have an interest where it can result in instability, which leads to violence, which leads to conflict and where we end up moving our young men and women overseas", said retired U.S. Army Brigadier Gen. Gerald Galloway, who is now a University of Maryland engineering professor.

In Mexico, former President Vicente Fox criticized Trump's move, saying on Twitter: "He's declaring war on the planet itself".

"GM will not waver from our commitment to the environment and our position on climate change has not changed", General Motors said in a statement following the president's announcement.

Trump said it will cost key jobs in the US and send them overseas. It commits developing nations and industrialized ones to a similar framework for tackling climate change.

They said they needed a seat at the table during worldwide climate discussions to advocate for coal's place in the global energy mix.

The U.S. exit from the climate pact could raise doubts about the commitment of the world's largest economy to curbing global warming and make it more hard to hold other nations to their environmental commitments.

Meanwhile, General Motors, the No. 1 US automaker, said it would continue its commitment to "creating a better environment". The automaker highlighted its development of the Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle with 238 miles of range on a single charge and a net price of less than $30,000.

Some representatives of other countries have suggested that the USA should leave the agreement if the current administration isn't serious about policies that combat climate change.

"It is clear that a decision by the White House to leave the Paris Agreement would further isolate the USA not only in economic terms because the transition goes on but also in political terms", Trio said Wednesday. "Mattis has already said 'I am going to be anxious about this, ' but it's the concern that (Trump's announcement) will be taken as the definitive statement".

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, formerly chairman and CEO at ExxonMobil, also urged the president not to pull out of the agreement.

Under the agreement, the USA had agreed to reduce the country's pollution emissions to 26 percent to 28 percent of 2005 levels by 2025 - about 1.6 billion tons.

Russian Federation joined the chorus speaking out for the climate accord.

Supporters of the accord condemned Trump's move as an abdication of American leadership and an global disgrace. Climate Interactive, which tracks global emissions and pledges, estimates that if United States doesn't reach its Paris Accord goal, which it won't if it pulled out, an additional 0.3 degrees Celsius will be added to global warming by the end of the century.
