Amazon unveils free calling and messaging with Alexa Calling

Initially, Home Hub was rumored to be a Cortana-powered speaker to take on the Amazon Echo.

In terms of connectivity, the Echo Show can link up to smart home products including Ring, WeMo, Philips Hue, SmartThings, ecobee, and Wink, among others.

Building on the existing library of home voice commands offered in previous Echo products, now you can ask Alexa to play music and the Show will display music lyrics on the screen. It's now available for pre-orders and expected to arrive on June 28. The device allows people to use their voice, and Amazon's voice assistant Alexa, to get answers to questions, turn on lights, order goods from, and request an Uber vehicle for pickup.

The Echo Show has everything a "normal" Echo smart speaker boasts, including the always-listening microphone array and Alexa virtual assistant built-in. Now, reports have claimed that its successor called Echo Show will be available for purchase very soon. But if you want Alexa's new calling features on a budget, you can pick up the Echo Dot for just $49.99 or use the free Alexa app for your smartphone or tablet.

The Amazon Echo lets you watch video flash briefings and lets you ask Alexa to pull up YouTube clips.

All Echo devices can respond to voice requests for weather, news, music and other tasks.

It also features a camera to enable FaceTime-like video calls between friends and family. It's a great way to keep in touch with grandma and grandpa, because they can see you on a bigger screen, and turn on the closed captioning.

The Echo Show is tipped to have a price tag of $229.99 in the United States, which means in the United Kingdom we might pay around £219.99 or in Europe 239.99€.

In the smart speaker segment, the competition is clearly heating up.

The Echo Show hasn't appeared on Amazon UK yet, but according to this morning's leak it'll end up costing £220 when it does.
