Bumps ahead for 'Obamacare' repeal as Americans air worries

After dozens of symbolic votes, US House Republicans finally pushed through a bill to gut former president Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act, with US President Donald Trump hailing the replacement as "a great plan" that has "really brought the Republican Party together". The bill would include a tax credit to help pay for health insurance, but it would be available only to those earning less than $75,000 per year. And it would cut Medicaid, the health insurance program for the poor and disabled, including ending extra federal payments 31 states are accepting to expand Medicaid to cover more people.

Comprehensive health care reform requires shared sacrifice to balance the interests of consumers, taxpayers, medical providers and insurance companies.

After addressing the American Health Care Act passing through the House on Thursday, Stephen Colbert returned to the topic on Friday's Late Show, beginning with a subtle jab at President Trump losing the popular vote to Hillary Clinton. "I think those members who stood with the president, the president will remember that and their voters will remember that, " he said. I know the Senate says it won't go along, but what does the House bill try to do? - R.G. It has helped to provide health insurance to 20 million more Americans since then. "This bill isn't flawless, but it is a large step toward repairing the damage that has been done by the Affordable Care Act", said Buck.

"Senators that are Republicans have expressed grave doubts about the House bill", said Chris Borick, a political science professor at Muhlenberg College in Allentown. Had just two additional Republicans voted "no", the measure would have lost because bills need majorities to pass.

As Janel George, the director of Federal Reproductive Rights and Health at the National Women's Law Center, tells TIME: "They could tell sexual assault survivors, 'Because you require preventative HIV medication and antidepressants, you're too expensive". First, let's recognize something remarkable about that: We all thought that Donald Trump would be signing an ACA repeal bill four months earlier on his first day in office.

Following the vote, the House Democratic campaign arm announced that it would immediately begin launching ads in 30 Republican-held districts, regardless of whether the politicians holding them had voted for the bill.

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, also a Republican, said the GOP plan fails to address how the new bill affects health care coverage for those depending on Medicaid. But we're going to save so much money on the other side.

"Thousands of Americans would die because they would no longer have access to care", said Senator Bernie Sanders. It would roll back state-by-state expansions of Medicaid, which covered millions of low-income Americans, CNN reported.

The provision was of particular concern to a number of Senate Republicans who represent states that expanded Medicaid, including Nevada's Heller and Arizona's Flake, who may face tough re-election challenges next year.
